The 'MBGS Approach' replicated in other countries

In February 2014, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) commissioned Chemonics International Inc., which is an international development consulting company, to study the operations and impact of the ‘MBGS approach.’ The objective was to understand whether it would be feasible to roll out the same in countries of the Middle East and North Africa regions on a pilot basis.   USAID is active in the region via the ‘Asia and Middle East Economic Growth Best Practices project (AMEG),’ designed to support USAID missions in implementing innovative economic growth programmes and projects in selected countries. The initial MBGS 50-50 Cost-Sharing Matching Grant ...

In September 2012, the World Bank organised a “Peer-to-Peer Learning Exchange” for key government officials of the Lao PDR to study the MBGS model and schemes with a view to replicating the same in Lao. A high-level delegation led by the Vice-Minister of Industry & Commerce held talks with officials of the Ministry of Business & Enterprise, the MBGS Team and also visited recipient firms in order to obtain feedback from them on their experience of using the Mauritius scheme.   The Government of Lao PDR has now successfully implemented a Business Assistance Facility which comprises a cost-sharing matching grant scheme similar to the 50-50 Grant Scheme implemented by World Bank/MBGS in Mauritius 2010.
